Description:	While teaching at a Honolulu pre-school, kama'aina writer Donivee Martin Laird discovered a need for more Hawaiian children's literature. She solved the problem by creating her own stories, based on familiar folklores, with an unmistakable Island flavor. Carol Ann Jossem, noted Honolulu artist and printmaker, illustrated the stories and the two women began publishing them in 1981.
